Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and the only American city with a royal palace, Iolani Palace, in its downtown. Waikiki Beach curves toward Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor lies to the west, and the Koolau mountains rise behind it all. The Hawaiian language lives on in everyday speech: aloha, mahalo, lanai, ukulele, and the directions mauka, toward the mountains, and makai, toward the sea, which locals use instead of north and south.

Honolulu sells the most famous beaches in the world, and the resorts, airlines, tour operators and attractions around Waikiki produce a steady stream of video and radio. It is also home to a large military presence with all the training that brings, a state government, and universities. Visitors arrive from Japan, Korea and the mainland in equal measure, so localization is part of almost every campaign.
